This angel, as indicated by the wings, carries the wreath of thorns placed on the head of Jesus by his tormentors at the time of his crucifixion in parody of his claim to be the King of the Jews. The angel also has the Passion Cross on his head indicating that he is the angel that witnessed the Resurrection of Christ to join his Father in Heaven. (Matthew 28:2)

As we continue to analysis and compare the symbolism in Rosslyn Chapel with that in other contemporary Collegiate Churches we begin to see a commonality. This is a theme to which we shall return once sufficient material is placed on the site to permit a greater level of analysis.
