St. Duthac’s Collegiate Church » St. Duthac Collegiate Church

A chaplaincy was endowed by James II (1437 – 1460; b. 1430) in 1457 about the same time that the Earl of Ross granted some land and a mill. A further endowment for another chaplain was granted by James III (1460 – 1488; b. 1452) and by 1487 the church had achieved full collegiate status. Confirmation of its status was made in a Papal Bull of Innocent VIII (1484 – 1492) dated 1492. The endowment of St Duthac’s and its elevation to the status of a collegiate church is similar to that of Rosslyn Chapel which was begun in 1446 and which also became a collegiate church soon after.
