Haddington »
Here we show another section of the cornice at St Mary’s Collegiate Church at Haddington. It is entirely consistent with a cornice from the early Perpendicular Style with individual mouldings interspersed with hollows.
However, one of the mouldings is significant being that of a human head with a severe wound to the forehead. Like the legend of the murdered apprentice at Seton Collegiate Church and Rosslyn Chapel the Collegiate Church of St Mary’s appears also to have its’ own version of the legend.
The story of the murdered apprentice at Haddington was relayed by a local resident who explained that it had been passed down through her family. The Rosslyn Templars will undertake further research.
