Haddington » Fragment

This fragment of a cornice has been inserted into a place were some restoration has taken place. It appears to have not relationship to the wall in which it is now mounted being of different stone.

Below the fragment is a monster (a dragon?) spewing foliage from its’ mouth. This has some similarities with the dragons at the base of the Apprentice Pillar Rosslyn Chapel. Is their some link between the legend of the murdered apprentice at Rosslyn Chapel, Seton St Mary’s and the carvings in all of those places?

Note the broken stress plate.
