Coldingham » A 'wall' of graveslabs at Coldingham Collegiate Church

These graveslabs have been removed from their original position, and thank goodness for that, as they would otherwise have been lost like so many others. Here the alert members of the church have saved a variety of graveslabs and used them in an imaginative way. We doubt that archaeologists would approve but when considering the alternative(s) we think that this is far better than might have been the case.

Unlike Rosslyn Chapel, which has very few graveslabs, Coldingham appears to have and probably had many more. The survival ‘rate’ of graveslabs is very low and that a number have survived at this site raises some interesting questions. Such questions, relating to the Knights Templar (KT), Freemasonry and especially Scottish Freemasonry will be discussed on another page under the title of ‘graveslabs’ (yet to be created).
