Seaton Graveslab - Masons Tools

Here is a close up on the working tools of a mason - axe, square and compasses. These are probably the 'trademark' of the illiterate mason who made the graveslab. The carving of working tools on graveslabs was a common practice by masons who made them and was in lieu of a 'signature'. They also had the function of serving as an advertisement for a particular masons work.
