Bothwell Collegiate Church was founded in 1398 by Archibald, the 3rd Earl of Douglas as his family's place of worship. The collegiate status was granted by Pope Boniface IX on 21st February 1398. The choir (above) was added to the existing parish church (which would have been to the left of the choir in the above picture).

Unfortunately, when the Rosslyn Templar who visited the church it was closed and the other side of the church was in deep shadow and could not be satisfactorily photographed. He has promised to return another day.
