Green Man

This Green Man at the Collegiate Church of St Mary's Haddington has been rendered as a corbel and although worn and/or damaged shows that the stonemasons responsible were able to adapt the Green Man to a variety of different settings. Like some of the Green Men at Rosslyn Chapel this one has the ability to appear as if he is always looking at you regardless of where you move.
It is clear that there is a need for more research to be done on the Green Man in Scotland for although there is a considerable amount of material in other countries, particularly in England, there is little equivalent research in Scotland.
