Damaged Angel

 Rosslyn Chapel

(© Rosslyn Templars)

This angel shows the problem that Historic Scotland and the Rosslyn Chapel Trust are trying to correct. The whole interior of the Chapel was given a 'cement wash' during the 1950's and is now beginning to come away due to water damage. Stopping the ingress of water is the first major objective (hence the hideous, but necessary, steel canopy over the Chapel). The water damage is manifest by the green algae like growth to be seen in many parts of the Chapel. Here it can been seen across the bottom portion of the image and particularly in the bottom right corner.

This angel is displaying a book on which is shown a heart. These symbols mean that the angel (the messenger of G-d) is presenting to humanity the word of G-d (represented by the book - the Bible) by way of Jesus Christ the son of G-d who is depicted by the heart on the book.
